DIY Gold Painted Terracotta Pots

I like gold pots and I cannot lie! Okay, cheesy. I know. But honestly. I cannot get over how cute these DIY pots are. Further proof that the smallest touches add so much to a space. These pots were ridiculously easy to make and the whole project only took an hour (painting + drying time) so this will be a quick Sunday Funday DIY to complete.

You'll Need...

Three terracotta pots (I used these from Ikea)
Paint brushes

Geometric

Start off by applying two coats of white acrylic paint to your pot and saucer. Let dry 10 minutes between each coat. When dry, take two strips of painters tape and map out your triangle design. I made mine all different sizes. Apply two coats of your gold paint to the inside of my tape working fast as to ensure the paint is still wet before I remove the tape. Doing it this way will ensure you have crisp clean lines. Let dry 20 minutes and apply two coats of a sealer.

Striped

Apply two coats of white paint to your pot and two coats of light pink paint to your saucer. Let dry 10 minutes between each coat. With a smaller brush and gold paint, make vertical lines from the top of the pot to about a quarter of the way down. Let dry 20 minutes and apply two coats of a sealer.

Ombre

Apply two coats of light pink paint to the pot and saucer and let dry 10-15 minutes. Take a flat paint brush dipped in gold paint and brush starting from the bottom of the saucer to a quarter away from the top in a sweeping motion. If you run out of paint on your brush, good! This will create your gradient affect. Apply a second coat of gold paint to make it opaque and blended. Let dry 20 mintues and apply two coats of sealer.

  1. Hi! So paint two coats of mod podge? (That’s what I have on hand instead of spray sealer). Orrrrr should I buy spray sealer and spray a few coats? Which do you think is best? Also, do you have any idea how to paint on glazed ceramic pots??? Trying to transform some ugly ones I have!! Thanks :)

    1. Hey! Yes, two coats works well for me of either the matte or glossy modpodge. It's wasy easier to use and doesn't have the strong smell the spray has. My modpodge pots are still holding up years later. For glazed ceramic pots I would use a sheet of sand paper. That should do the job. Hope that helps :)
