Easy & Affordable Christmas DIYs

Christmas is right around the corner and I'm totally nor prepared. For the first time in forever, I'm actually excited about the holiday, but you wouldn't know that due to the lack of tinsel, ornaments and chestnuts roasting over an open fire at the Davis residence. I guess Santa will just have send my presents via Paypal this year.

Let's just be honest, store-bought decorations are expensive, yet so easy to do it yourself. So, save a few bucks this year and get into the Christmas spirit by recreating these easy DIYs.

Painted Pine Cones

Materials:
  • Glitter
  • Decoupage glue
  • White paint
  • Pine cones (If used from outside, kill the hidden critters by baking the pine cones on 200 degrees for 40 minutes checking occasionally.)
  • Paint brushes
Directions:
  1. Start with clean pine cones and apply white paint to the ends of each scale
  2. Let dry for 15-20 minutes
  3. Apply decoupage glue to the ends of each scale
  4. Sprinkle glitter and let dry for 20-25 minutes

Mini Christmas Tree

  • Black thread
  • Small Christmas tree
Directions:
  1. Apply black thread to the loop of the ornament and tie in a small knot

Winter Terrarium

  • Decorations small enough to fit inside of the mason jar
  • Metallic spray paint
  • Glitter
  • Snow flakes
  • Mason jar
Directions:
  1. Remove any stickers from the outside of the jar with warm water
  2. Measure how tall you want your ornament to be in the jar. If too short, insert card board the lid to make it taller
  3. Paint the card board white to blend in with the snow flakes
  4. Spray paint the lid with the metallic spray paint to remove the labeling and design
  5. Let dry for 25 minutes
  6. Once dry, hot glue the inner and rim portions of the lid to each other
  7. Add a small amount of snow flakes to the mason jar. I filled mine up about 1/4 of the way.
  8. Apply the card board to the lid using hot glue and the decoration to the piece of card board
  9. Let dry for 15 minutes
  10. Screw on the lid and you're done!
